A Tribute to Sid Krofft

Socks on my Hands put together this incredible event hosting the legendary grandfather of puppetry, Sid Krofft, at Art Love Salon. The plan was to revisit memories of his iconic 1962 Seattle World's Fair, "Les Poupées de Paris," and his incomparable entertainment career. It is with great sadness that we share Sid passed away on April 10th. We now invite you to join us for a celebration of his legendary work instead.

There will be a tribute screening lovingly curated by Seattle's own Collide-O-Scope, alongside live puppet shows and a display of several marionettes from his original productions. We will also broadcast an interview covering Sid's career completed for the 2023 National Puppetry Festival from the podcast Under-the-Puppet. A condolences book will be available for you to share your favorite memories of Sid and his work.

April 25, 6:00 PM, Art Love Salon in Seattle, Free to the public, but RSVP is encouraged.

Juliana Brandon will be one of the performers at this event presenting her piece entitled The Adventures of Basstronaut, puppeteered and sung live to Mozart's motet Exsultate Jubilate.

Juliana's puppetry grew out of the art of burlesque opera, and this music has played a role in her previous burlesque exploits with Operadisiac. She was so looking forward to meeting Sid Krofft who also started his career in burlesque, and she offers The Adventures of Basstronaut in homage to one of the greats who so deftly straddled the worlds of adult and children's entertainment.

Coming in 2026: the next piece in the Shadow Bachs project

Bach's cantata BWV 209, Non sa che sia dolore

Johann Sebastian Bach only wrote two cantatas in Italian, and this is one of them. Shadow Bachs is Juliana Brandon's project to create puppet shows for all nine of Bach's solo soprano cantatas. Each show will be created, puppeteered and sung live by Juliana Brandon.  This rendition of Non sa che sia dolore will be part of a larger art project called Sparrow's Descent that includes a collage series and a short book that questions why we may choose to incarnate and reincarnate onto such a challenging planet as earth.
