Songs of Death and Transformation
October 24 and 26, 7:30 PM at Seattle Theosophical Library
Tickets are only available at the door by donation, but we encourage you to RSVP so we can prepare the small space for our audience.
Joseph Anderson: tenor
Jeri Howe: harp and percussion
Juliana Brandon: shadow puppets (performing with the small solo theater this time)
A little bit about the program by Joseph Anderson:
There are many ballads in the folk traditions of the British Isles that recount stories of sudden or tragic death–and also tales of triumph over adversity. In this program we will share both types of songs in a meditative spirit, to honor and assist the spirits of our ancestors who lived their lives of tragedy and triumph, as well as to bring peace and strength to us who are living. We will use shadow puppets and masks to help us access these deep ancestral energies and patterns.
Our voices, instruments and visual presentation are intended to help ease the disquieted spirits of those long dead as well as loved ones lost more recently. We will also honor and celebrate the courage, tenacity and quest for justice that have helped our well ancestors thrive and live into their destiny.
This work is based on shamanic practices used by many cultures to help heal the ancestors, and support greater health, well-being and sense of purpose for us who are the living.

Here's a video from Bach's wedding cantata BWV 202, Weichet nur betrübte Schatten. Singing and puppetry by Juliana Brandon
Juliana Brandon is available to bring this small puppet theater to your party!
She brings all necessary technology, all you need to do is turn out the lights. This Bach cantata is ready to hit the road and brings 20 minutes of enchantment to young and old alike. Juliana will also talk to your audience afterwards about the puppets, the music, and her process, and even explain a bit about how the magic works. Great fun for curious kids and adults, and a wonderful way to introduce youngsters to the world of classical vocal music and to the art of shadow puppetry.
Custom puppet pieces can also be created to fit your theme or curriculum.
